21 Day Sugar Detox, Take 2

Tomorrow I begin again.  The 21DSD, that is.  I love sugar.  In fact, when it comes to sugary, sweet treats I have no boundaries.  I can eat a bag of candy, a batch of cookies or a pint of ice cream in one sitting.  Not only has this not helped my weight loss efforts, I have horrible  heartburn and sugar crashes when I sugar overdose.

A little background for you:  In January I committed to the Whole30 and was quite successful with the food I ate, although I did have a few glasses of red wine on occasion.  So, in all honesty I failed. But,  I saw it as a success because I changed the way I ate and didn't overindulge in alcohol.  I have not had corn, gluten, legumes, or dairy since.  When I finished the Whole30 I really wanted a sweet treat and was inspired by the many Paleo blogs displaying delicious "healthy" alternatives to brownies, cookies, waffles, etc.  Now,  they would have been much better than downing a bag of Oreos if I could have stuck to just 1 or 2 brownies, cookies or whatever it was I was making that day.  I also fell in love with cashew milk ice cream and almond butter.  Needless to say I have a problem with sugar.

In February I began the 21DSD and had 4 great, successful days.  Then, I blew it by going out with friends, having a few drinks which led to eating sugar.  It has been all downhill from there on.  I can say that I didn't give in to Valentine's candy or Easter candy like I usually do.  I had a few treats and left it at that.

With the help of Diane Sanfilippo and her plan to kick sugar's butt, I will not fail.  I am committed  to completing the 21 days without going off plan, NOT EVEN RED WINE!!!  I am using this blog to document what I eat and also to hold myself accountable to anyone reading, as well as myself.  Also, to have something to do if I get a sugar craving!  Dang, it's taken me all afternoon and evening to just set this blog up!  I won't have time to crave sugar!!

Here's to a successful 21 days of sugar freedom!!
